COVID-19 – Vaccination Success Leads to Phase 5 Reopening

Today, the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) issued COVID-19 Phase 5 reopening guidance as the county and State of Illinois celebrate the success of its COVID-19 vaccination efforts that has resulted in a dramatic decrease in cases with fewer hospitalizations and fewer deaths related to COVID-19 infection.

“This is the day that we’ve been looking forward to since March 2020.  The fact that we are able to enjoy the people, places and activities that we’ve missed so much over this past year, is the result of the phenomenal and effective success of the COVID-19 vaccines.  We are so grateful for the level of response we have received from DuPage County residents, but we’re not done yet,” commented Karen Ayala, Executive Director of DCHD.

DCHD public health leaders estimate there are still over 200,000 DuPage County residents who are eligible for the vaccine, but have not yet received one, as of today.  There are multiple convenient, quick places to receive vaccination to protect individuals and the community from COVID-19 by interrupting and preventing spread.  DuPage County leaders and partners are still working to achieve the goal of 80% fully vaccinated eligible residents by July 1, 2021.
