CALEA ACCREDITATION ASSESSOR INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT
Community May Provide Input Regarding Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center
An assessor from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), Inc. will arrive April 2, 2017 to examine all aspects of Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center’s policy, procedures, management and operations, Director Delores Temes announced today.
Verification by CALEA that Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to earn accreditation – “a long sought after designation this agency has been working toward,” Director Temes stated.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling (630) 693-7515 on Monday, April 3, 2017 between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Comments will be taken by the assessor.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the dispatch center’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center. The local contact is Brandon Hurd at (630) 543-3080.
Persons wishing to submit written comments about Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcoat Boulevard, Suite 320 – Gainesville, Virginia 20155.
“Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center has to continuously comply with more than 200 rigorous standards in order to obtain an accredited status,” Temes said. “The accreditation provides official recognition of the dedication and hard work of the professionals at the Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center who work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist our communities in emergency situations”.
This assessor will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit the dispatch center and other places where compliance can be witnessed. The assessor is Commissioner William Bleyle from the Onondaga County (NY) Department of Emergency Communications.
“Once the Commission’s assessor completes his review of the agency, he reports back to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency will obtain an accredited status,” said Program Manager Christopher Weinbrenner, of the Addison Police Department.
Accreditation is for four years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
