DISTRICT 88 SENIORS HONORED FOR VOLUNTEER PROJECT

High School Students Raise Funds, Package Food for “Feed My Starving Children”

After years of competing to see which senior class could accomplish more, the Class of 2013 from Addison Trail and Willowbrook high schools set a new precedent and joined forces in a Feed My Starving Children Senior Service Project.  On Monday evening, Addison Mayor Rich Veenstra recognized representatives from both DuPage High School District 88 schools and commended them on their considerable efforts.

Students began meeting in February and planned several fundraisers that netted more than $22,000.  This went to pay for supplies for Feed My Starving Children meals, which were then assembled by the seniors during a day-long culmination, in which nearly 109,000 meals were packaged.

“This is something very characteristic of what we see day in and day out in our community, people coming together to help,” said Mayor Veenstra.  “The leadership these students have shown is really remarkable.”
