Mayor Richard VeenstraFrom the Desk of
Mayor Rich Veenstra

As the holiday season gets into full swing, most of us try to find time to take a moment to give thanks to those who have made an impact on us.

Miss Addison 2013 Aimee Gaspari, left, assists Mayor Rich Veenstra and his wife Mary Ann in greeting guests at the 23rd Annual Mayor's Community Charity Ball.

So on behalf of the Mayor's Community Charity Ball, I want to pass along our thanks to the many businesses and community members that once again supported the many charities and causes that benefit from the event.

Our 23rd Annual event was held Saturday, Nov. 9 at Alta Villa Banquets.

Charitable events have struggled in recent years to maintain participation, but we are fortunate to have not been impacted as much as most. In fact, the event earned $58,000 in profits, about $3,000 more than last year.

On Dec. 2, I will have the honor of presenting that $58,000 to 20 local charities and service organizations that will use that money right here in Addison to help people right here in Addison. The money will be used to help feed the hungry, to help sick children get health care, to give scholarships to students, and to help those battling addictions.

Guests had the opportunity to browse through, and bid on, more than 300 items in the Silent Auction.

All of this is possible because of the many people who attended the event, who bought items in the Silent Auction, and who purchased raffle tickets.

It is also possible because of the 18 businesses who stepped up to become sponsors of the event, and I want to express my gratitude to each of them. They are Republic Services, 601 Bar & Grill, Athletico, Auto Advantage, BMO Harris Bank, Edward J. Zarach & Assoc., Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, The Pampered Chef , Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, EZ Rotational, Humes Funeral Home, Itasca Bank & Trust, Jostens, MB Financial, Oxford Bank, Pyramid Club, Rotary Club of Addison and SWD.

l hope you and your family will enjoy the many blessings of this season. I also hope at that the beginning of next year's holiday season, you will consider being a part of the 24th Annual Mayor's Community Charity Ball on Nov. 15. Our entire community is invited – to be added to the reminder list, please contact Doree Krage in Community Relations.

Respectfully,

Rich Veenstra
Mayor
