VILLAGE DEBUTS NEWLY ORGANIZED, REDESIGNED WEBSITE

The Village of Addison’s award-winning website, AddisonAdvantage.org, will debut a brand new look May 1 that will include new features, along with making information about the entire community easier to find.

As it has since its debut in 1997, the Village’s site acts as an umbrella to other taxing bodies, agencies and business sites, making AddisonAdvantage.org the only site residents need to remember.  Whether you are looking for information about schools, parks or the village itself, it is available through links on the main page.

The Village’s information has been reorganized in a logical fashion by Village Department – e.g.., all Finance Department information, such as vehicle stickers and water bill payments, are grouped together, as are all Police Department pages, etc.

For those who might not know which Village Department pertains to a specific topic, a new Site Map will make information easier to find.  The Site Map is available at the click of a button from every page on the site, so visitors can’t get lost.

Still not sure where to look?  A site Search engine is also available at the top of each page, along with a Contact Us page with phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mails to key people and departments within the Village.

Other new features of the site:

bulletLocal weather updates, courtesy of the Weather Channel’s Weather Magnet.
bulletNews Bulletins provide current details about items of interest to residents, such as Lake Street construction projects.
bulletNew residents or those considering moving to Addison can find information in the Welcome Wagon on everything from property tax comparisons to trash pickup schedules.
bulletThe Historical Museum provides information about Addison’s past in the History section.
bulletMany forms that residents may have to fill out for building permits, vehicle stickers, automated utility debits or job applications, can be downloaded and completed prior to coming to Village Hall, to save an extra trip.

In addition to the new features, many of highlights of the old website remain, including:

bulletStreaming video of the weekly “Before the Board” program from Addison Community Television Channel 17.  In addition, video segments from two other popular ACTV programs, “Addiscene” and “Around Town,” will be added.
bulletComing Events from throughout the community are organized on a monthly calendar, giving residents and visitors a place to find out things to do in Addison.
bulletAgendas, for the Village Board and its three Committees, are posted each week.
bulletLocal reporters can schedule story and photo opportunities for the coming week for all school, community and village events for the coming week by checking the Media Tip Sheet each Friday.
bullet“Ask Mayor Hartwig” allows residents to communicate with the Mayor at any time via the website, and then see their questions answered on live television on the first Monday evening of each month.

“We have always taken great pride in providing our residents with as much information as we can through as many different avenues as we can,” said Village Manager Joseph Block.  “Since we began using the website as a resource, we’ve found more and more ways to help our residents stay informed and communicate.”

The Village’s website has won several awards, including the Urban Innovation Award  for Citizen Involvement, and the Outstanding Community Relations Department Award from City Hall Communications.  It has also been named a Top Municipal Website Pick in 1998 and 2000 by MuniNet Guide and Review.

The website was redesigned and is maintained by the Village’s Community Relations Department.
