COMMUNITY INVITED TO DEDICATION OF RUSSOTTO MEMORIAL FOUNTAINFormer Village President to be Honored August 18 by Village Board, FamilyThe Village of Addison, the Board of Trustees, and the Russotto Family invite residents to attend a Dedication Ceremony of the Anthony Russotto Memorial Fountain on Saturday, August 18, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Village Hall, One Friendship Plaza. The recently-constructed fountain, just west of the Village Hall, honors the Village President who passed away during his tenth year in office. "Ever since Tony's death, residents have asked if some kind of memorial was planned," said Mayor Larry Hartwig, who has served since Mr. Russotto's death in April 1995. "Several ideas were discussed, but this seemed the most fitting, since he had long realized the need for new municipal offices in Addison." The memorial features a fountain, with a stainless steel sculpture of an eternal flame, and a plaque commemorating Mr. Russotto's service to the Village of Addison. It is surrounded by landscaping, and features benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the park-like atmosphere of Friendship Plaza. During his tenure on the Village Board, Mr. Russotto spearheaded several projects that are still benefiting the community today, making an indelible impression on residents and on those who knew and worked with him. "Tony's vision is still apparent today," Mayor Hartwig said. "There are so many things that we are working on, or completing today, that we wish he were around to see, because he was so proud of Addison." After the flood of 1987, flood relief became the top priority of Mr. Russotto and the Village Board, and every available dollar over the next several years went into flood mitigation projects. Today, nearly all of Addison's neighborhoods are safe from all but the most torrential of storms. Lake Street beautification was also one of Mr. Russotto's goals, and many of the changes that have occurred in the past ten years are those that were decided or planned during his term of office. During the Dedication Ceremony, Mr. Russotto will be remembered by the Mayor and Board of Trustees, including his son, Jarrod Russotto, who has served as Village Trustee since 1997. |
