COMMUNITY INVITED TO PATRIOT DAY CEREMONYVillage, Schools Mark September 11th Observance by Honoring Police, FireThe community of Addison is invited to the first Patriot Day on September 11, 2002 with a ceremony to be held at 9 a.m. in the Addison Trail High School gymnasium, 213 N. Lombard Road. Mayor Larry Hartwig will host the event to honor the police and firefighters, as well as the thousands of citizens who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks. State Representative Lee Daniels will address the community, including the entire student body of Addison Trail High School, who will attend the ceremony. The high school band and choir, will both perform, as well as the Indian Trail Junior High School Choir. A color guard made up of representatives of the Addison Police Department, Fire Protection District and Veterans of Foreign Wars will begin the ceremony, which will feature both police and fire chaplains. At 9:29 a.m., exactly one year after the collapse of the second tower of the World Trade Center, a minute of silence will be observed. "I think everyone will spend part of September 11 reflecting on the terrible events of a year ago," said Mayor Larry Hartwig. "I hope many of our residents will take the time to join us in honoring those that were lost." The Village of Addison has conducted several events over the past year in observance of the tragedy, including an interfaith memorial service held just days after the attacks, and hosting State Senator Peter Roskam's Ground Zero Flag Tour during Law Enforcement Memorial Week in May. Items from the Ground Zero Flag Tour will be on display during the morning of Patriot Day. Visitors may park along Lombard Road - a limited number of parking places are also available to the west of the high school for the elderly and handicapped. Visitors may enter the school at the north end - doors will open at 8:30 a.m. # # # |
