DOLORES NIELSEN NAMED HUMANITIES SERVICE AWARD WINNER

Second Addison Recipient of 'Studs Terkel' Award

The Illinois Humanities Council, along with Addison Mayor Larry Hartwig, is proud to announce that Dolores Nielsen, chairperson of the Addison Historical Commission, is the recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award. Mrs. Nielsen has been recognized for her outstanding efforts on behalf of the humanities in Addison.

"Dolores Nielsen has truly worked tirelessly for our community, and we are proud that her efforts are being recognized outside of Addison as well," said Mayor Hartwig.

Mrs. Nielsen is honored for her work with the Addison Historical Society as well as the Historical Commission. Through her efforts, the Village has acquired and rehabilitated two 1890s vintage Addison homes. One of these structures was the original office of Addison Township and now houses the Village's Historical Museum. Mrs. Nielsen was instrumental in the relocation and set up of the new museum location, and continues to volunteer her time to create displays of historical artifacts and organize "living history" programs that educate Addison citizens about their heritage.

Mrs. Nielsen is second Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award winner from Addison. Annette Leiber, chairperson of the Cultural Arts Development Commission, was a recipient in 1999, the first year the awards were given out.

Mrs. Nielsen was nominated for the award by Mayor Hartwig. She will be presented with an engraved medal of recognition during the Village Board meeting of Monday, October 21, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall Board Room, at One Friendship Plaza.
