MAYOR'S COMMUNITY CHARITY BALL AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESSMore Than $38,000 Distributed to Local CausesMayor Larry Hartwig extended gratitude Monday night to all who participated in the 12th Annual Community Charity Ball before distributing more than $38,000 to 15 local organizations. "Since its inception in 1991, this event has rung in the holidays by going to the heart of what the season is all about - giving to others," said Mayor Hartwig. On November 16, 425 people enjoyed dinner and dancing, with entertainment provided by the Addison Trail Chamber Strings and the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. They then started off their holiday shopping at the silent and live auctions, which featured items such as jewelry, gift baskets and golf outings. Of the $55 each person paid to attend, a little more than $28 went the organization of their choice. An additional $4,600 was received in donations. A raffle - new to the event this year - raised $7,000, while the auctions raised an additional $14,000. Local organizations who sponsored the event included Rotary Club, Woman's Club, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Sertoma Club, Concord Lutheran School, Historical Society, Addison Center for the Arts, Addison Trail Music Boosters, Addison Trail Theatre Boosters, American Association of University Women and the Addison Association of Industry and Commerce. Money raised by the Village of Addison was donated to two worthwhile agencies in town - the Addison Community Switchboard and the Michael Lane Neighborhood Resource Center. The 13th Annual Mayor Community Charity Ball will be held on November 15, 2003. To have your name added to the invitation list, contact Doree Krage, Asst. Community Relations Director for the Village of Addison, at 630/543-4100, ext. 7550. # # # |
