VILLAGE 'AMBASSADOR' TO DELIVER FLAGS TO FDNY

Flags Signed During Sen. Roskam's Ground Zero Flag Tour Make Journey to New York

In May, when State Senator Peter Roskam brought the Ground Zero Flag Tour to the Village of Addison, 500 residents paid their respects and signed five Village flags with heart-felt messages of sympathy and gratitude to members of the police and fire departments of New York.

Members of New York City's Engine Co. 7, Ladder 1 display a Village of Addison flag, which was signed by residents last spring during Senator Peter Roskam's Ground Zero Flag Tour visit.

This weekend a Village employee will act as Addison's ambassador, and personally deliver two of those flags, aiding Sen. Roskam in his goal of hanging an Illinois municipal flag in each firehouse in New York City.

Roseanne Benson, assistant to the finance director, will deliver two of the flags Saturday morning to firehouses on the upper west side of Manhattan.

The first of Addison's flags has already made the journey to New York, arriving in Engine Co. 7, Ladder 1, which was the subject of the famed 9/11 documentary, hosted by Robert DeNiro on CBS last spring.

Ms. Benson had originally inquired about the location of Addison's flags, hoping to return from her vacation with photos of them hanging in New York - she leapt at the offer from Sen. Roskam's office to actually deliver them.

"This is such an honor to be able to personally tell them how much their work and their sacrifice have meant to us, half a nation away," she said.

Ms. Benson is an Addison resident, and has been employed by the Village for 2 ½ years
