LIVING HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR RETURNS TO ADDISONHistorical Society, Historical Commission Host 2nd Annual ReenactmentOn Sunday, June 22, 2003, residents and visitors to Addison's Village Green will feel they have stepped back in time, as Taylor's Battery, Chicago Light Artillery Company B, conducts a Civil War encampment. This event is sponsored by the Addison Historical Society and Addison Historical Commission. From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., a "Living History" will be presented, including historically correct Civil War era uniforms and civilian clothes, military drill demonstrations, and encampment with artifacts. Civil War era rifles and cannon will be fired as a part of the demonstration. New to the event, which debuted last year, will be a cavalry demonstration by Addison resident Richard Hargreaves, as well as a demonstration of battle surgery by Perry Brusenbach. "As the great-grandson of a Union Civil War veteran, I am particularly proud to have a part in sponsoring this event," said Village Manager and Historical Society Treasurer Joseph Block. Taylor's Battery provides living history demonstrations to educational institutions throughout the Midwest, and is based in Villa Park. The group has been featured in two historical films - Gettysburg, which was released in 1993, and Gods and Generals, released earlier this year. Addison's Village Green is located just east of the Village Hall, at One Friendship Plaza. Refreshments from Quizno's subs and Uncle Harry's Ice Cream will be available at a nominal cost. # # # |
