LIVE SATELLITE BROADCAST BRINGS ITALY TO ADDISONTelecast Lets Residents Speak With Family Members in Sister CityHere in the United States, March 4 may be called "Fat Tuesday." In France, it's "Mardi Gras." But in the Puglia region of Italy, they will celebrate the final day of Carnevale Di Putignano, the longest running and oldest event of its kind in Italy, and perhaps the world. This 609-year old event will be broadcast live on Telenorba in Italy, and thanks to satellite technology it will also be brought to Addison live on Addison Community Television. Beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, cable subscribers may watch the program as it unfolds on both continents on Channel 6. However, residents - especially those who may have family or friends in this area of Italy - are invited to actually participate in the broadcast from the Village Hall rotunda, at One Friendship Plaza. They will be given the opportunity to communicate with and ask questions of Carnevale participants in Putignano. At Village Hall, the satellite link will allow our residents to be seen by those in Italy, and vice versa. Addison has a significant population of residents who are originally from Italy, specifically from the Bari region. Last year, the mayor of Triggiano, Italy - located just outside Bari, and near Putignano - visited the Village of Addison in the first steps of making Triggiano Addison's sister city. Because of this existing connection between the communities, it is an opportunity for community members to find about one another, as well as for family and friends to see and hear one another. Those who wish to attend should arrive at the Village Hall rotunda between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. The two-hour long broadcast will begin at noon.
