ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DIRECTOR HONORED WITH AWARD

Gregory Brunst, Director of Environmental Services has been awarded the Clarence W. Klassen Outstanding Service Award by the Illinois Association of Wastewater Operators. The award was presented at the Annual Awards Banquet during the Association's 67th Annual Conference in Springfield, Illinois, April 24, 2002.

Brunst, a 33-year employee of the Village of Addison, was recognized for his efforts in the efficient, cost-effective operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems. His accomplishments include involvement at the local, state and national levels. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Water Environment Federation, an international organization dedicated to preserving the global water environment.

The Award is named after Clarence W. Klassen, the first Director of The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Prior to his appointment to the Agency, Mr. Klassen had been the State of Illinois Chief Sanitary Engineer for over 35 years. He was a well-respected authority on wastewater purification. While in his 70's he began working as a sanitary engineering consultant to the World Health Organization traveling the world establishing programs to protect the water environments. Up until his death in 1997 at the age of 93 Mr. Klassen presented the award personally.

The Award is presented annually and honors those professionals in Illinois who have given of their time and talents to assure water quality is preserved in the waterways of the state.
