The Village of Addison currently offers residents three methods to recycle their regular household garbage. Addison residents have a choice of visiting the Addison Recycling Center or participating in the residential curbside recycling program. The Environmental Services Garage also helps recycle used motor oil.

Addison Recycling Center

The Addison Recycling Center, located at 711 N. Addison Road, is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Residents are required to separate their garbage by various categories and place them in the corresponding bin. The following items are accepted:
bulletplastic containers labeled #1 PET or #2 HDPE
bulletglass bottles colored green, brown or clear
bulletsteel, aluminum and bi-metal cans
bulletnewspaper, office paper and magazines
bulletcardboard and chipboard

Residential Curbside Recycling

Homeowners who wish to recycle must separate their garbage into two groups of recyclables: paper and non-paper.   The following is a listing of the accepted curbside recyclables:

Paper Materials: newspapers, magazines, mixed paper, cardboard, chipboard.

Non-Paper Materials: glass colored brown, green and clear; aluminum, steel and bi-metal cans; plastics #1 PET and #2 HDPE.

These should be placed in Village of Addison recycling bags, which may be purchased from local retailers including: Dominick’s, 545 W. Lake St.; Jewel/Osco, 140 W. Lake St.; Len’s Ace Hardware, 30 W. Lake St.; and Sears Hardware, 118 W. Lake St.

Residents should place paper and non-paper materials in separate recycling bags. Both bags may be placed at curbside for weekly pickup. Recycling bags are accepted along with regular refuse on normal garbage days; they should not exceed 80 pounds.

Homeowners may choose to purchase a recycling bin from Allied Waste Services for a small fee. This eliminates the need for recycling bag purchases. Call 708/ 345-7050 for details.

Please note that the following items are not accepted as part of the curbside recycling program: toys; motor oil or any other petroleum product containers, such as antifreeze or transmission fluid; plastic bags; pesticide containers; light bulbs; plate glass windows; pyrex; ceramic; shirt hangers.

Environmental Services Garage

The Environmental Services Garage at the A.J. LaRocca Wastewater Facility accepts used motor oil from residents at no charge. The garage is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and is located at 249 S. Villa Ave. Motor oil is not accepted at landfills, and should not be placed with the normal trash for pickup.
