Hiring Opportunities

Except as otherwise provided by statute, applicants must be at least 21 and less than 35 years of age at the time of their application. Applicants must possess an associates degree or the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at an accredited college, university or junior college.

The Addison Police Department protects citizens and property from crime and enforces the laws necessary for the safety and well-being of all residents within the Village of Addison. The Addison Police Department provides comprehensive police services to the community, including:

  • 24-Hour, seven-day-a-week Patrol Activities
  • Local E-911 Dispatching
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Gang/Tactical Enforcement
  • Crime Prevention
  • Bicycle Patrol
  • Community Policing
The department also provides community programs including:
  • DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Law Enforcement Explorer Post
  • And other Community Services

Job Descriptions
Police Officer

Addison Police Officers are responsible for:

  • Protection of Life and Property
  • Enforcement of Laws and Ordinances
  • Responding to Citizens' Complaints and Calls for Service
  • Maintaining Order in the Community
  • Investigation of Crimes
Addison Police Officers are also eligible for training in specialized areas within their assignment including:
  • Evidence Technician
  • Field Training Officer
  • Firearms Instructor
  • Crime Prevention Officer
  • Gang/Tactical Officer
  • Juvenille Officer
  • Physical Fitness Instructor
  • Accident Reconstructionist
  • DARE Instructor
  • Undercover Narcotics Officer
  • Criminal Investigator
  • Arson Investigator
  • Bicycle Patrol Unit

Community Service Officer

Community Service Officers (CSO's) are non-sworn personnel who are cross-trained in a variety of areas. CSO's are responsible for the operation of the communications function of the Addison Police Department including:

Answering E911 and other emergency phones

  • Dispatching to Police Units
  • MDT Communications
  • Handling Complaint Window Traffic
  • State Computer Entry and Inquiry
Their field duties include:
  • Handling Animal Complaints
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Abandoned Auto Removal
  • Traffic Control
  • Non-Emergency Requests for Service
CSO's can also specialize in:
  • Property Control
  • Photo Laboratory
  • Business Ordinance Enforcement
  • Traffic Control
Social Services

Current opening for Spanish-speaking Program Coordinator to facilitate community outreach program.

Responsibilities include planning daily activities and special events, grant development and reporting.  Experience with community program development for diverse populations desired.  Must have good communication and PC skills.

Application Requirements for Police Officers
  • Except as otherwise provided by statute, applicants must be at least 21 and less that 35 years of age at the time of application. Applicants must possess an associates degree or the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at an accredited college, university or junior college.
  • Must be a US Citizen or have applied for Citizenship
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License
Hiring Process for Police Officers
  • Complete an application. Applications are available at the conclusion of the mandatory orientation.
  • Attend an orientation meeting
  • Pass written, physical agility, medical, psychological, polygraph and oral exams
  • Subject yourself to an intensive background investigation and credit history check

  • Attend a formal basic training course
  • Complete additional training under the direct supervision of a qualified Field Training Officer
  • Work a permanent schedule
  • Be eligible for a rewarding career filled with opportunity and challenges
  • Maintain good physical conditioning and participate in semi-annual physical fitness testing
