Eagle Eye Neighborhood Park Watch
The goal of this program is to prevent crime and vandalism to our playground and park equipment and to alleviate suspicious activities by promoting community involvement. Through the involvement of police, park district, and citizens, our goal is to create a safe haven for children and adults to play and learn.
Business Police Academy
This 7-week program is offered to business owners, managers, and employees who live in Addison. The goal of this program is to educate business people on how to protect their business and themselves from becoming victims of crime. Instructors are members of the police department who have expertise in crime prevention, drug and gang awareness, fraud, and personal safety.
Teen Citizen Police Academy
The Teen Police Academy is a Six Week program offered to give teenagers a working knowledge of the Addison Police Department and the Justice System. It is a series of classes held once a week from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Class size is limited to 20 participants ages 14 through 17, high school age. There is no cost to participants.
The Addison Police Department is committed to the youth of our community and the importance of their role in the community. The department embraces Community Oriented Policing principals in forming partnerships with the community to work towards a common goal of a safe community. Participants will learn about criminal laws, traffic laws, and the role law enforcement officers serve in enforcing them. Special attention is given to the juvenile system and the impact youth officers have on the community. Education will be given to our youth on personal safety and domestic violence.
Class topics are:
- Tour of the Police Department and Field Court
- Overview of the Patrol Division
- Traffic Laws with traffic stop demonstration
- Juvenile Laws and Domestic Violence
- Crime Prevention and Police Explorer Program
- Tour of DuPage County Jail
National Night Out
Crime Prevention Officers organize and coordinate this annual village resident gathering on the first Tuesday of August.
Security Surveys
A Crime Prevention Officer will meet with the resident or business owner in his/her home or business and discuss various crime prevention measures that can be taken to improve the security of their home or business. While taking a brief tour of the building, the Crime Prevention Officer will complete a residentail or business security survey form which will be turned over to the resident or business owner.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
The Crime Prevention Section works with the Village of Addison Community Development Department to recommend crime prevention strategies in the design and construction of residential and commercial buildings. CPTED includes many principals targeting the design, layout lighting, and physical look of an area in an effort to reduce the likelihood of burglaries and other criminal activity.
Operation Identification
The Crime Prevention Section will make available to the general public engravers to be used to mark all items subject to theft in homes and businesses.
Loitering Program
Since 1991, the Addison Police Department with the cooperation of private businesses, apartment building and condominium owners has been successfully implementing a private property loitering program to reduce vandalism, gang related activity, and loitering on private property.
Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
This three phase program is designed to educate owners and property managers of rental property on ways to keep drugs and other illegal activity off their property. The Crime Prevention Section conducts an eight hour course of instruction, along with instructors from local, county, state, and federal agencies, for rental property owners and managers with the goal to teach them ways to establish a stable, more satisfied tenant base; increased demand for rental units with a reputation for active management; lower maintenance and repair costs; and improved safety for tenants and property managers.
Carrier Watch Program
The program designed to link senior citizens and Handicapped individuals with a program where agencies will be alerted to check on their well-being. Agencies that participate in the program are the Addison Senior Center, Addison Police Department, Addison Post Office, and National Association of Letter Carriers.
Fleet Watch Program
The Program is aimed at providing emergency service through the cooperation of alert radio-equipped public service employees and the Police Department. Vehicles involved display a green/white “Fleet Watch” logo.
Personal Safety Training
Crime Prevention provide personal safety seminars for all interested organizations.
Spotlight on Addison
Crime Prevention Officers write a quarterly article to highlight specific crime prevention strategies or programs which are published in the Spotlight on Addison through Community Relations.
College Recruitment
Crime Prevention Officers attend recruitment fairs at various colleges throughout the state to provide information about our department to interested candidates.
Workplace Violence Seminars
Crime Prevention Officers can, upon request, provide training for businesses and organizations on workplace violence prevention and preparedness.
Bank Robbery Prevention
Crime Prevention Officers provide training to bank employees on bank robbery prevention and preparedness.
Tobacco Retailer Inspections
Crime Prevention Officers conduct semi-annual inspections of tobacco retailers to check for illegal sales of tobacco products to underage persons.
Drunkbusters
Crime Prevention Officers coordinate the Drunkbusters Program, which enncourages citizens to report drunk drivers in order to receive a reward, by forwarding to AAIM all reported DUI arrests.
Domestics Program
A bulletin highlighting repeat domestic violence offenders is forwarded to the Patrol Section. The purpose of the bulletin is to target repeat offenders for increased enforcement and violence intervention programs.
