The Addison Police Department is proud of the many Crime Prevention Programs available to citizens of all ages.
Special Events
Neighborhood Watch
The goal of this program is to reduce crime and criminal opportunity in participating neighborhoods by fostering communication and helpful relationships between neighbors and the police and neighborhoods. Block Captains are responsible for delivering the monthly Newsletter. Block Captains are also invited to Semi-Annual Meetings to bring back helpful prevention tips to their neighborhood.
Juvenile Crime Prevention
In conjunction with Addison School District 4, a Student Participation Center (SPC) was created in 1997 and is held at Indian Trail Junior High. The goal of this program is to provide Junior High youth the opportunity to be involved in homework help, offsite gym program, girl scouts, crafts, and informational programs to deter Juvenile Delinquency. SPC is open Monday-Thursday 2:50pm-5:50pm when school is in session.
Seniors & Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.)
The program is a TRIAD consisting of senior citizens, park district, and police department. The S.A.L.T. council has hosted numerous informational sessions and invited all Addison Park District Seniors to attend.
Citizen's Police Academy
This 10 week program offers Addison residents who are 18 years of age or older, a chance to learn more about the Addison Police Department and it’s procedures. Information is also provided to educate citizens on necessary concepts of protecting themselves and their property. Members of the police department who have expertise in the subject matter teach classes.
Sr. Citizen's Police Academy
This 7 week program is available to citizens who are 55 years of age or older. The goal of the program is to offer continuous education for senior citizens. The seniors learn to recognize factors that lead that may lead to a crime being committed against senior citizens. Members who have expertise in cons, scams, fraud, drug and gang awareness, and personal safety teach classes.
Alumni Association
The Alumni Association is a program which was designed by the Addison Police Department, in a classroom setting, with first-hand information about how the police department works.
Identity Theft
The Crime Prevention section will provide information on what it is and
how to help prevent becoming a victim of Identity Theft.
